As the highly anticipated solar eclipse looms over Florida today, millions of residents are in a frenzy to secure last-minute eclipse glasses to safely view the rare astronomical event without damaging their vision.

Availability of these specialized glasses, equipped with ISO certification and essential address details, dwindles rapidly as numerous retail outlets, gas stations, and convenience stores across the state have stocked and, in some cases, depleted their supplies.

Popular retail chains like Walmart and Amazon have featured a variety of eclipse glasses on their websites; however, due to shipping constraints, local stores may be the best bet for in-time acquisitions.

While major grocery chain Publix confirmed they did not offer eclipse glasses this year, specialized eyewear retailer Eyeglass World released a limited batch exclusively on April 1, urging interested parties to contact store locations prior to visiting.

Even fast-food giant Sonic joined the eclipse fervor by offering complimentary eclipse glasses with the purchase of their innovative Blackout Sonic Float.

Consumer awareness is paramount as the American Astronomical Society (AAS) warns against online purchases due to the proliferation of counterfeit eclipse glasses flooding the market this year.

For those without proper eclipse glasses, alternative safe viewing methods include using household items like colanders, pinhole projectors, and even observing the unique crescent shapes created by sunlight passing through tree branches.

The eclipse is expected to last approximately 2.5 hours in Florida, commencing around 1:40 p.m. EDT and concluding near 4:17 p.m. EDT, with the peak coverage anticipated just before 3 p.m. for most areas in the state.

Ensuring eye safety and embracing the celestial wonder of the eclipse remains a top priority for Floridians eager to witness this extraordinary event.
