Chula Vista Recycling Plant Fire Smoke

CHULA VISTA, Calif. — A small fire broke out behind a recycling plant in Chula Vista on Monday afternoon, sending a light plume of smoke over the city. The blaze, which involved scraps outside a warehouse, did not appear to threaten nearby buildings, according to local fire officials.

At 5:30 p.m., the Chula Vista Fire Department reported that the fire’s progress had been halted, though crews remained on the scene for several more hours to ensure the area was safe. The fire occurred on the 2800 block of Main Street, behind a recycling facility.

“Crews are currently on scene of a large scrap metal fire behind a recycling facility,” the Chula Vista Fire Department stated on social media. “Forward progress of the fire has stopped, but extensive overhaul and water operations will continue for the next 2-3 hours.”

Several fire engines were dispatched to the scene to manage the situation. No injuries or damage to surrounding structures were reported.
