INGLEWOOD, California — Rams head coach Sean McVay expressed a desire to diversify his team’s running back usage after Kyren Williams dominated the carries in their opening win over the Houston Texans. Williams had 18 carries and played 82% of the offensive snaps, while backup Blake Corum received only one carry in the game.

After the 14-9 victory on September 7, McVay told reporters that he wants to get Corum and rookie Jarquez Hunter more involved moving forward. ‘Yeah, we’d like Blake to get more,’ McVay said. He emphasized the need for more efficient runs, especially on early downs, to sustain drives.

Corum, who played just 10 snaps and caught one pass for 14 yards, had a quiet rookie season in 2024. Although he saw limited action, McVay is now focusing on increasing his workload this year. ‘I want to get Blake some more work,’ McVay added. ‘Some things we can improve upon, but we do want to get Blake more involved.’

In a stark change during the Rams’ Week 2 match against the Titans, McVay began giving Corum more opportunities. Despite Williams logging 33 yards on 13 carries, Corum exceeded that with 44 yards on just five carries, scoring his first career touchdown.

Fans are now questioning whether Corum should take over more snaps, with many calling for a greater role following his explosive performance. However, McVay insists that Williams remains the primary back, stating that while both have their strengths, his commitment to keeping Williams fresh for the season endures.

This debate gains more weight as the Rams prepare for their next game against the Philadelphia Eagles. The coaching staff must decide how to balance the backfield while ensuring that their workhorse, Williams, maintains peak performance throughout the season.
