Seattle Protest Ice Immigration Raids

SEATTLE, Washington — Hundreds of protesters gathered at Cal Anderson Park on Wednesday evening to march against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) immigration raids. The event, which started at 7 p.m., saw participants travel from Capitol Hill to the Henry M. Jackson Federal Building in downtown Seattle.

Holding signs with messages like “Immigration rights are human rights,” participants chanted as they made their way through the streets. “We’re here to say, ICE out of Seattle. ICE out of everywhere,” one protester told KIRO Newsradio.

Approximately 200 protesters participated in the event, with some joining a separate group of about 50 demonstrators at the federal building. Seattle police warned residents and businesses nearby about potential disruptions and the possibility of small, unaffiliated groups joining the march, which could lead to violence.

In light of the ongoing demonstrations, police advised local businesses to secure any loose items that could be used as projectiles and warned of possible lane closures due to the march’s size and route.

Local leaders condemned President Donald Trump’s recent decision to send the National Guard to assist with protests in Los Angeles. Washington Governor Bob Ferguson and other officials released a statement expressing their expectation for police to handle protests professionally, without federal interference.

“At some point, I will probably go to jail and be in prison, because we have an administration that has threatened to jail politicians,” Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes said earlier in response to questions about ICE protests. Barnes emphasized that the Seattle Police Department does not engage in immigration enforcement.

Another rally at Cal Anderson Park is scheduled for Saturday, June 14, at 12 p.m., with participants expected to march toward Seattle Center. Police have issued similar warnings regarding potential disruptions and criminal activity during this future event.
