Secret Service Agents Open Fire Near Trump’s Golf Club
American Secret Service agents discharged firearms after spotting an armed individual near former President Donald Trump‘s golf club at West Palm Beach, Florida. The golf course was partially closed to allow Mr. Trump to play golf. Agents, who were ahead of him by a few holes, noticed a person carrying a firearm, according to two law enforcement sources.
The person appeared to be pointing the gun through a fence, prompting the guards to open fire. The individual fled in a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and was later apprehended in a nearby county by local law enforcement, officials reported. Sheriff William Snyder informed the media that the suspect was unarmed when apprehended and displayed minimal emotion, without questioning the reason for his arrest.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is said to be investigating what appears to be the second assassination attempt against the former president, as reported by American media. The suspect was found on the golf course where Mr. Trump was playing. CNN reported that Mr. Trump was between the fifth and sixth holes when a shoulder weapon was discovered nearby.
Officers in Martin County located the vehicle the suspect fled in and arrested the driver. A spokesperson for the Martin County police, in Florida, stated that the suspect sought in Palm Beach County was apprehended. The individual was unarmed during the arrest and showed little emotion, continued the spokesperson.
Donald Trump had returned to Florida over the weekend following a West Coast tour, which included a rally in Las Vegas and a fundraiser in Utah. The Republican candidate often spends his mornings playing golf before lunching at the Trump International Golf Club West Palm Beach, one of the three golf clubs he owns in the state.
Approximately two months ago, Mr. Trump was wounded by a bullet during an attempted assassination at a rally in Pennsylvania, where a shot grazed his ear. Since the attempted assassination in July, the former United States President has enjoyed enhanced security. When speaking at outdoor rallies, he now stands behind a bulletproof glass enclosure.
The Secret Service officers, using golf carts and all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), generally secure a zone spanning several holes ahead of and behind Mr. Trump while he plays golf. They also typically bring an armored vehicle onto the course to rapidly shield Trump in case of a threat.
Sheriff William D. Snyder of Martin County stated that the suspect was caught within minutes after the FBI, Secret Service, and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s office issued an alert to other police departments, identifying the suspect’s vehicle, license plate, and physical description.
The arrested suspect would be named Ryan Wesley Routh, as indicated by three police sources to the Associated Press. Attorney General Merrick Garland has been made aware of the situation and receives regular updates, a Justice Department spokesperson confirmed.
