Senator Ted Cruz Discusses Commerce and Economic Growth in Laredo Townhall Meeting
Senator Ted Cruz recently held a townhall meeting in downtown Laredo, Texas, where he addressed a range of significant issues impacting the local community, including commerce, border security, and economic growth.
One of the key topics of discussion was the importance of trade in Laredo and the proposed 4/5 bridge. Senator Cruz mentioned that while the presidential permit for the bridge has not yet been signed, there is a 180-day window for approval. If the permit is not signed within this timeframe, it will be granted automatically.
Senator Cruz emphasized that the approval of the permit would have a substantial impact on the region, promoting increased trade and bringing more job opportunities to Laredo and the surrounding areas. He highlighted the significance of the trade between Texas and Mexico, which amounts to over $8.2 billion annually.
The World Trade Bridge, currently featuring eight lanes, is set to expand to 18 lanes with the addition of the 4/5 bridge. This development is expected to benefit not only Laredo but also other neighboring regions like Brownsville and Eagle Pass, as well as various sectors such as farming, ranching, manufacturing, and small businesses across Texas.
During the townhall meeting, Senator Cruz also mentioned the passing of legislation aimed at improving and expanding highways 22, 69, and 2 in the area. These infrastructure enhancements are crucial for facilitating smoother transportation for tractor trailers and other vehicles, ultimately improving connectivity and accessibility throughout the region.
Joining Senator Cruz on the panel were Laredo Mayor Dr. Victor Trevino and Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina. Together, they reaffirmed their commitment to collaborative efforts in addressing the community’s needs and driving further progress in Laredo and its neighboring areas.
