Pakistani Army Soldiers Balochistan Bombing

QUETTA, Pakistan — Seven soldiers were killed on May 6 when an improvised explosive device (IED) struck their vehicle in Balochistan province, according to Pakistan’s military. The attack, attributed to the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), took place during a convoy operation near the provincial capital of Quetta.

The Pakistani military alleges that the BLA operates as a proxy for India, a claim that remains unverified. No immediate responses were received from Indian officials or the BLA. An unnamed senior local official reported that five other soldiers were wounded and promptly taken to a military hospital.

This incident follows a series of deadly attacks in Balochistan, where over 200 individuals, primarily security personnel, have been killed this year, as per AFP records. In March, an attack on a military convoy left at least 31 people dead.

On April 22, tensions escalated between Pakistan and India following a deadly shooting at tourists in Pahalgam, which claimed 26 lives, including one Nepalese. India has accused Pakistan of supporting the attackers, a charge that Islamabad denies.

In response to the rising tensions, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and senior military officials met at the Directorate for Inter-Services Intelligence, the country’s intelligence agency, to discuss recent security developments. They pledged to bring those responsible for the attacks to justice.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has expressed concern over the escalating conflict, urging both nations to avoid actions that could lead to further confrontation.
