Addis Louisiana Flooding Emergency

ADDIS, La. (WAFB) – Emergency officials are urging caution on the roads as severe weather causes dangerous flooding in the area. On Thursday morning, April 24, 2025, the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office shared photos of flash flooding near Highway 1 and Chad Drive.

WAFB reported live as residents near Chris Drive were forced to evacuate their homes through rising waters. Local authorities are responding to multiple vehicle crashes due to poor road conditions caused by flooding. High water is reported on River Road, making some streets completely impassable.

Approximately 40 individuals evacuated from a neighborhood close to Chris Drive as floodwaters continued to rise. “Normally, our drainage system handles rain quickly, but this amount of rain fell in a short time, so it did not have a chance to clear away,” said Addis Police Chief Jason Langlois. He added that he has never seen flooding of this magnitude since he began working here in 2003.

In reaction to the flooding, the West Baton Rouge Parish Government has set up several sandbag locations. Residents are required to bring their own shovels to fill bags. Locations include William & Lee Park in Port Allen and Myhand Park in Addis, among others.

Flooding has also affected other areas, including Lukeville Lane in Brusly and River Road near LSU in Baton Rouge. Officials remind drivers to exercise extra caution on roads as additional heavy rain is forecast in the region. This is a developing story, and more updates will follow as they become available.
