Severe Oklahoma Storms Leave Two Missing, Including Child

MOORE, Okla. — Severe storms swept through Oklahoma on Saturday night, resulting in multiple tornado warnings and significant flooding. The adverse weather conditions left two individuals, including a child, missing after their vehicle was swept off the road in southeast Moore.
First responders launched a search operation near SE 12th Street and S Eastern Avenue after reports indicated that two vehicles had gone off the road. Police confirmed that one vehicle, a truck, was able to get out of the water while the second vehicle, a Jeep, was washed into a creek, trapping three occupants inside.
The driver of the truck, an adult male, along with his child passenger, managed to escape safely. However, only one person from the submerged Jeep has been accounted for, while search teams work to locate the remaining two, including the child. Authorities utilized drones to assist in the ongoing search, which is expected to continue for several hours as investigations and cleanup efforts unfold.
By midnight, reports indicated rising water levels and widespread flooding throughout the region. As a result, Moore police advised residents to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary, as numerous motorists required assistance due to high water conditions.
Earlier that evening, the Moore Police Department noted that the area had seen extensive flooding, particularly around Broadway and South Eastern Avenue. The fire department confirmed that they were responding to over a dozen calls for help from drivers stranded in high water.
At approximately 12:05 a.m. Sunday, the eastbound and westbound lanes of Interstate 40 near Douglas were temporarily closed due to flooding. Fortunately, those lanes have since reopened.
The storm produced several tornado warnings across Oklahoma, with alerts issued for counties including Atoka, Cole, and Hughes. Meteorologists warned that the severe weather risk would persist into the early hours of Sunday, with heavy rainfall expected to continue.
“This is an extremely dangerous situation,” cautioned local meteorologists during their updates. “We’re advising everyone to remain indoors and monitor local news for updates as conditions could change rapidly.”
Areas from Ardmore to Oklahoma City experienced significant downpours, contributing to an overall flooding trend across central and southern Oklahoma. Local authorities urged those attending any Easter sunrise services to exercise caution, as storms and heavy rain are anticipated to persist throughout the morning.
