Baltimore Severe Thunderstorms Weather Alerts

BALTIMORE, Maryland — Severe storms are forecasted to impact the Baltimore area Monday afternoon, with meteorologist Dalencia Jenkins advising residents to stay alert. The National Weather Service has issued a warning for possible strong thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain, gusty winds, and hail.

This rainy start to the day is expected to escalate as conditions worsen. By the afternoon, there is an 80% chance of thunderstorms, particularly affecting western Maryland and extending towards southern regions.

Jenkins highlighted a strong weather system developing over Anne Arundel County, predicting the storms to move northward through Baltimore around 3:00 PM. Residents are urged to keep rain gear handy and remain informed about weather alerts, particularly as storms are expected to continue into the evening.

The current temperature in Baltimore is 71 degrees, with forecasts showing a high of 72 degrees for the afternoon. As the day progresses, temperatures may drop slightly, but showers will remain a risk. The potential for severe weather has heightened due to a combination of warm, humid air and a low-pressure system lingering in the area.

Jenkins reminded residents to take precautions during thunderstorms, especially as lightning poses a significant risk. “When thunder roars, go indoors,” she said. The expected impacts include potential flooding from heavy downpours and damage from strong winds and hail.

The weather pattern is expected to persist through tomorrow, with a slight warming trend but continued chances of rain. By mid-week, conditions should improve, with a shift towards clearer skies as the storms move out.
