Severe Storms Bring Tornado Watch to Central Texas This Evening

WACO, Texas — Central Texas is on high alert today, April 30, 2025, as severe storms sweep through the region, bringing a heightened risk of tornadoes, large hail, and flash flooding. The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Central Texas and surrounding areas until 8 p.m. CDT.
Meteorologist Josh Johns warns that storms expected to develop this afternoon and evening could bring dangerous conditions. “We are looking at storms that could produce tornadoes, hail up to 2 inches in diameter, and wind gusts exceeding 70 mph,” Johns said. He also noted the potential for heavy rainfall, which may lead to flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and urban areas.
As the storms progressed, residents were urged to monitor road conditions closely. By 5:00 p.m., multiple updates from the National Weather Service indicated a Flash Flood Warning for McLennan County, effective until 8:00 p.m. CST. Hill County also faced severe weather, with tornado warnings issued and then later canceled.
Travel conditions throughout Central Texas have been described as spotty, making some areas difficult to navigate. Locals are encouraged to stay informed and take precautions as needed.
In light of these warnings, residents are advised to have an emergency management plan ready, seek shelter if storms approach, and remain tuned to local weather reports for updates on the developing situation.
