Severe Storms Cause Hail Damage in San Antonio Region

SAN ANTONIO – Severe storms hit San Antonio and the Hill Country on the night of May 26, 2025, resulting in large hail and strong winds. KSAT meteorologists reported rainfall of 1 to 3 inches in San Antonio, with even higher totals of over 3 inches in areas like Helotes and Seguin.
The storms began around 7 p.m., with lightning and hail captured by KSAT’s live coverage teams throughout the evening. A significant amount of these storms left damage across the city, with reports of hail reaching sizes comparable to lemons and tennis balls.
“To me, it looks like a bowling ball. Not a baseball, not a golf ball,” said Tara Harper, who found her car damaged by the hail. She expressed her distress upon seeing shards of glass on her driver’s seat after the storm.
By Tuesday morning, reporters noted lingering high water in areas like Highway 151 and Pinn Road, a known flooding hotspot. San Antonio Fire Department crews conducted rescues due to vehicles stranded in high water, particularly on the access road of Highway 90 and Leon Creek.
“Anytime that it rains pretty heavily, I do see this pretty often,” said Luis Neto, a local construction worker. He mentioned that drivers often ignore safety warnings during these weather events.
Looking ahead, KSAT meteorologists are monitoring for additional rain chances on Tuesday night. As residents reflect on the storm, many expressed hope that the area will not experience more hail. “No more hail, and no more thunder for me,” said Cynthia Charo, who had just replaced her windshield after a previous storm.
