Severe Storms Expected in Southeast Louisiana Early Sunday Morning
NEW ORLEANS, Louisiana — A line of thunderstorms is set to move through southeastern Louisiana early Sunday morning, bringing potential hazards including damaging winds, street flooding, and isolated tornadoes.
Weather officials warn that storms are expected between 4 a.m. and 8 a.m. localized areas may experience quick spin-up tornadoes and heavy downpours leading to street flooding. Meteorologists encourage residents to stay vigilant and utilize mobile weather alerts.
According to meteorologists, the storms will reach Baton Rouge first and continue toward New Orleans later in the morning. While there may be initial severe weather, the storms are likely to weaken as they approach the metro area. After the storms pass, humidity levels are expected to decrease, and skies may clear by late morning.
In the afternoon, isolated thundershowers could develop, adding some uncertainty to the day’s forecast. Rainfall rates could reach one to two inches in a short period, which may lead to localized flooding.
Looking ahead, a cold front is predicted to bring cooler temperatures into the region beginning Tuesday night. Highs are expected to reach the lower 80s on Monday and Tuesday before dropping to the low to mid 70s by Wednesday. Thursday could see temperatures struggling to reach the 60s as cooler air settles in.
Residents are reminded to prepare for potential severe weather as the storm system approaches, and to download the WDSU app for real-time alerts and safety information.
