PHILADELPHIA, PA — A First Alert Weather Day has been issued for Friday, May 16, due to severe weather threats expected throughout the region. Strong winds, heavy rain, and chances for hail and isolated tornadoes are anticipated from the NBC10 First Alert Weather Team.

The storms are expected to pass through neighborhoods between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., following a thick fog that covered some areas in the morning. While the rain may not persist for long, it is predicted to be impactful, potentially causing downed trees and power outages.

Forecasters indicated that regions including Berks County and the Lehigh Valley may see storms arrive by mid-morning. In contrast, areas like Philadelphia, Delaware, and South Jersey could experience storms closer to midday. A severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until at least 5 p.m. on Friday, but the risk for stronger storms will linger into the late afternoon.

Residents are advised to prepare for additional storms that may arise Friday night. Meanwhile, in Nashville, Tennessee, a similar weather alert has been issued. Residents are cautioned as severe thunderstorms with damaging winds, torrential rains, and potential tornadoes are predicted to hit between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m.

In Raleigh, North Carolina, another First Alert Day has been declared, signaling a Level 1 severe storm risk for areas through the evening. The main concerns include damaging winds and hail, with lingering storm activity expected into Saturday.
