Piedmont Triad Severe Weather Forecast

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Severe storms are anticipated in the Piedmont Triad region and much of North Carolina on Monday afternoon and evening, according to local weather officials. A cold front is projected to approach the area, increasing the likelihood of strong storms.

The National Weather Service reports that high pressure currently situated near Bermuda will dominate the region through Sunday, but will be displaced by the advancing cold front expected around midday Monday. As daytime heating occurs, conditions are ripe for severe weather formation.

“The main threats include isolated damaging wind gusts exceeding 58 mph, large hail, and even the possibility of an isolated tornado,” said Jonathan Weant, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. “Typically, there’s a 2-5% chance of a tornado within a 25-mile radius during this time of year. However, the Storm Prediction Center has indicated a 10% chance for an isolated tornado across parts of North Carolina this Monday.”

The timing for potential severe weather is expected between noon and 6 p.m. Local residents are urged to stay informed and have a severe weather plan in place. Ensure that cell phones are charged and multiple ways to receive weather alerts are at hand, as conditions could change rapidly.

“It’s essential that everyone stay weather aware on Monday,” Weant emphasized, urging communities to remain vigilant and prepared for possible interruptions due to weather.

Cooler high pressure will return to the area on Tuesday and gradually modify through the week, providing a brief respite from potential severe weather.
