Severe Storms Expected This Weekend Across Florida and Georgia

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Strong storms are expected to move offshore on Saturday morning, with additional storms forecasted later in the day, as weather alerts remain in effect for Florida and South Georgia.
The First Alert Weather Day for Sunday warns of storms that could disrupt outdoor events and affect Mother’s Day plans. Monday also carries a First Alert Weather Day status due to heavy rain and storms, which may slow commutes and cause localized flooding.
According to the First Alert Weather team, Saturday’s weather will feature partly to mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms. Saturday’s high is expected to reach 84 degrees, dropping to 68 degrees overnight. Sunday will see more thunderstorms and is forecasted to reach a high of 83.
Meanwhile, in Tallahassee, multiple rounds of rain and thunderstorms are anticipated through the weekend and into early next week, with the heaviest rain expected on Sunday and Monday. Rainfall totals could reach 4 to 6 inches in some areas, according to recent model guidance.
WCTV First Alert Chief Meteorologist Mike McCall is monitoring the forecast closely. He emphasized that while flooding is a possibility, much of the region still grapples with moderate drought conditions. As of May 1, the U.S. Drought Monitor indicated that the Big Bend of Florida and parts of South Georgia are experiencing drought, with the Tallahassee area off pace by nearly an inch of rain for the year.
In Georgia, more rounds of rain are expected overnight, with temperatures remaining chilly in the upper 50s. On Mother’s Day, highs are predicted to reach near 70 degrees. Rain coverage will increase throughout the afternoon, and while storms are likely, severe weather is not anticipated.
Authorities advise residents to prepare for potential severe weather, with gusty winds, flash flooding, and isolated tornadoes possible, especially from Atlanta to the south and east. Following the storms, forecasts indicate hotter temperatures and the return of dry conditions by mid to late week.
