Severe Storms Forecasted for Southern Oklahoma This Weekend

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – Severe weather is expected to hit southern Oklahoma this weekend, raising concerns about large hail, strong winds, and isolated tornadoes. Meteorologists warn that conditions are favorable for intense storms starting Saturday into Monday.
KOCO 5 Meteorologist Jonathan Conder reports that while rain might not fall continuously, there is a chance of ongoing showers and thunderstorms, particularly south of Interstate 40. He noted the potential for one-inch hail and that the area faces a low risk of severe weather.
As storms develop, residents in Caddo, Canadian, and Grady Counties have already received flash flood warnings. A severe thunderstorm watch extends across southern portions of the state, with winds reaching up to 60 mph and hail possible in certain areas.
“The ingredients for severe weather are still present,” added Conder. He highlighted an alert day for next week, indicating the possibility of bigger hail and an increased tornado risk.
Recent storms have already affected power in Oklahoma, with over 60,000 residents losing electricity due to gusty winds and severe weather since Saturday. By Sunday morning, this number decreased to around 16,000.
Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, continue monitoring alerts, and prepare for possible emergencies as the holiday weekend approaches.
As of now, more than 900 tornado reports have been recorded across the country in 2025, making it a historically active year for tornadoes.
