Wisconsin Severe Weather Thunderstorms Wind Gusts

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – A first alert has been issued for Wisconsin as severe weather is expected this weekend, particularly affecting areas from Friday evening through Saturday. The combination of dry conditions, strong winds, and near-record high temperatures are raising concerns for fire hazards across the region.

As a low-pressure system approaches from the southwest, strong to severe thunderstorms are forecasted to move into Wisconsin Friday evening. Meteorologists warn of gusty winds and a possibility of brief tornadoes as the storms develop.

“We are anticipating wind gusts of 40 to 50 miles per hour, with some areas potentially reaching up to 60 miles per hour,” said a forecaster with the National Weather Service. The storms could also generate severe winds exceeding 58 miles per hour.

Strong winds are expected to persist through Saturday, with southeast Wisconsin particularly at risk. For those in the region, it will be important to monitor weather updates closely, as high winds combined with dry conditions significantly increase the risk of fire.

Looking toward the end of the weekend, forecasts indicate a shift in weather patterns. Rain or light snow is possible on Sunday, with temperatures expected to drop into the 20s by Sunday morning. Winds will remain active with gusts from the northwest.

In the long-term outlook, a low-pressure system is predicted to traverse through the Dakotas and northern Wisconsin on Monday, potentially bringing breezy conditions and highs around 60 degrees Fahrenheit inland, while areas near the lakeshore may experience cooler temperatures.

From Tuesday through Friday, another low-pressure system may introduce wet weather to the state, potentially including snow mid-week. Meteorologists emphasize that the forecast remains uncertain, and the system’s track could influence the weather dramatically.
