Severe Storms Hit North Georgia with Tornado Warnings Issued

ATLANTA, Ga. — North Georgia is facing severe weather today as two waves of rain and storms sweep through the region. The National Weather Service has warned that an intense round of storms is expected to reach northwest Georgia by 4 p.m. and metro Atlanta by 8 p.m., prompting concerns about lightning and possible damaging winds.
Earlier in the day, lighter rain fell across the area, but as a cold front approaches, the risk of severe weather has increased. This follows recent storms that already caused damage, including downed trees and injuries.
As the situation develops, tornado warnings have been issued for several counties. For example, a tornado warning for Lamar and Upson counties is effective until 10:30 p.m. Other warnings include Jasper, Morgan, and Newton counties until 10:15 p.m.
The Atlanta Braves scheduled a game for 10:15 p.m., but it remains uncertain whether it will proceed due to the worsening weather. The Braves’ official account tweeted updates about the rain delay as storm predictions worsen.
The severe thunderstorm watch covers a broad area, including all of metro Atlanta, with conditions prompting experts to emphasize caution. According to the Weather Impact Team at 11Alive, localized flooding due to heavy rainfall could also pose threats.
As residents prepare for potential storms, they are advised to stay alert and heed warnings from local authorities. The National Weather Service continues to monitor the situation closely as drier air is expected to move in after the storms pass later tonight.
