Houston Severe Storms Power Outages

HOUSTON, Texas — Severe storms swept through Southeast Texas overnight, causing extensive power outages. At one point on Tuesday morning, more than 180,000 people were left without electricity, according to local reports.

CenterPoint Energy mentioned that by 8:40 a.m., approximately 71,566 customers were still without power while Entergy reported around 23,790 outages. The outages were linked to strong winds, lightning, and tree damage.

“We appreciate the patience of those customers who are without power as our crews work to restore service as quickly as possible,” CenterPoint Energy tweeted. By noon, crews had restored power to more than 130,000 customers.

The National Weather Service issued severe thunderstorm warnings in the region, predicting continued storm activity throughout the week. Meteorologists warned of hail, damaging winds, and potential flash floods.

As of Tuesday afternoon, about 21,482 people remained without power. CenterPoint Energy crews are working diligently to restore electricity as storms continue to affect the area.

Residents are urged to stay away from downed power lines and report outages through the utility companies. They can also follow updates on social media for real-time information regarding power restoration.

The storms significantly impacted the Greater Houston area, with reports indicating that around 94% of their customers did not experience any outages.
