Severe Storms Possible in Kentucky and Tennessee This Evening
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Severe thunderstorms are expected late today across southern Indiana and northern Middle Tennessee, including areas around Louisville and Nashville. The National Weather Service warns of damaging winds, small hail, and a minor tornado risk.
The storms are forecast to arrive this evening, affecting communities south of Bloomington, Indiana, to areas near Nashville, Tennessee. Heavy rainfall is likely, with some locations potentially seeing up to an inch of rain.
According to meteorologist Cory Mueller, the storms will move into Tennessee around 5 p.m. local time, likely intensifying until midnight. “While the severe threat should diminish overnight, showers and lingering storms will continue until early morning,” he said.
In addition to strong winds and hail, the tornado threat has been noted as low but present, mainly in southwestern Indiana near Evansville. The weather service outlined that key timing for these severe storms would be from approximately 7 p.m. until midnight.
Following this system, the weather is expected to clear overnight into Wednesday. Temperatures will drop into the low 40s across much of the region, with Wednesday reaching highs in the 50s under mostly cloudy skies.
Rain will return Thursday afternoon as another weather system approaches, bringing more widespread thunderstorms into Friday. This weekend, temperatures will cool to the mid-60s on Saturday but could reach the low 60s on Sunday with clearer skies.
As Thanksgiving week approaches, forecasters predict two additional systems bringing more rain and potentially winter weather later in the week. Meteorologists will continue to monitor conditions closely and provide updates as the situation develops.
