Severe Storms Possible as Rain Returns to Detroit

DETROIT, MI — Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon across the Detroit area, bringing possible severe weather as temperatures rise into the low 70s.
The National Weather Service warns that isolated storms could become strong to marginally severe from noon until 8 p.m. Winds gusting between 50 to 60 mph and small hail are possible. Heavy rain remains the main threat, with localized rainfall totals of 1 to 1.5 inches potentially leading to flooding in low-lying areas.
“After experiencing pleasant, dry conditions, we are entering a stormy stretch today,” said Ashlee Baracy, an Emmy award-winning meteorologist with 4Warn Weather. “While severe storms aren’t guaranteed, we’re monitoring the situation closely.”
This weekend will bring cooler temperatures following a cold front, with highs only reaching the mid to upper 50s on Saturday. Morning temperatures could dip into the 40s and even 30s.
Weather will improve by Sunday, as high pressure moves in, allowing for sunshine and temperatures returning to the seasonal 60s. Warmer conditions with highs in the 70s and 80s are in store for Monday and Tuesday.
However, a new cold front is projected to bring additional rain and storm chances late Tuesday into Wednesday morning. As meteorologists continue to track these developments, residents are urged to stay informed about potential weather changes.
