Severe Storms Ravage Houston County, Leaving Damage and Destruction

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — Severe storms rolled through Houston County on Monday, causing extensive damage to homes and businesses, including Mills Construction, owned by Junior Mills. The storms left downed trees and widespread power outages affecting numerous residents in the area.
Mills reported significant damage to his business, with a tree crashing onto the roof. “It really hurt my shop. That’s the worst part right there,” he stated, highlighting the emotional toll of the destruction. Facing the daunting task of recovering from the damage, he added, “We may have to rebuild our whole shop, but we’ll get to it as we can.”
The storms did not spare the local neighborhood either, with some areas experiencing more severe damage than others. Stacy Gause, a resident on Brentwood Avenue, voiced her frustration over the storm’s impact on her street. “We’re a little frustrated because it seems like it only impacted these four houses right here,” Gause said, referencing the damaged properties nearby.
Her yard was littered with fallen trees, which knocked out power lines and left her family without electricity. “Never this severe. We’ve had a couple limbs down before — but never entire trees. We were worried about these trees since we brought this house; we’re just glad they fell the opposite way and not on the house,” she shared.
The devastation sparked concern among residents as they began assessing the damage in their neighborhoods. The National Weather Service announced that crews would be dispatched to Houston County on Tuesday to investigate whether a tornado touched down during the storms that struck Monday afternoon.
Efforts to restore power and clear debris are already underway in the wake of the storm’s destruction. Local authorities urge residents to exercise caution as recovery efforts progress and assess the full extent of the damage.
