Severe Thunderstorm Threat Declines in Texas, Storms Persist

AMARILLO, Texas — The severe weather threat in the NewsChannel 10 viewing area is declining as nighttime falls, although storms continue to linger. Meteorologists report that all severe thunderstorm warnings have expired, but heavy rain remains a possibility for the night.
Small hail, lightning, and gusty winds may still occur, but as temperatures drop, the intensity of the storms is expected to lessen. Rain chances will remain throughout the week, though the severe risk is anticipated to be lower.
In Nashville, Tennessee, a First Alert Weather Day is underway due to potential severe thunderstorms across the Midstate. The most significant storms are expected to move through by 6:00 p.m., with damaging winds being the primary concern.
“Ensure you remain informed,” WSMV advised, promoting their free First Alert Weather app. They reminded residents to take shelter with the slogan, “When thunder roars, go indoors.”
In Texas, an update issued at 10:34 p.m. reported that a Severe Thunderstorm Watch has replaced a Tornado Watch for most of the South Plains, including Lubbock and Plainview, effective until 1 a.m.
Updates throughout the evening indicated that thunderstorm coverage is increasing, with reports of severe warnings for hail and wind. Many storms are currently producing heavy rainfall and lightning instead of severe conditions.
The Storm Prediction Center previously issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the western South Plains and Eastern New Mexico, highlighting areas like Levelland and Muleshoe, which might see large hail and damaging winds. A tornado was reported earlier in Curry County, near Clovis.
With scattered severe storms moving over the Rolling Plains and in proximity to Guthrie, meteorologists noted an increase in storm development. Prior to 11 p.m., a tornado watch was also issued for Lubbock, indicating that severe weather may be possible.
The setup for severe weather involved a cold front moving through the Texas Panhandle earlier in the day, affecting temperature and humidity levels across the region.
Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates as these storms continue to evolve.
