A severe thunderstorm warning temporarily disrupted the tranquility in the City of Lethbridge early Thursday morning. The alert was issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) at 5:16 a.m., cautioning residents about a nearly stationary storm positioned east of the city. This storm was identified as a potential cause of very strong wind gusts and heavy rainfall, with its location reported to be 20 kilometres north of the hamlet of Etzikom.

ECCC highlighted the threat of flash floods and water pooling on roads due to heavy downpours expected from the system. The urgency of the situation prompted the agency to advise citizens to take cover immediately if they perceive threatening weather approaching. Fortunately, about half an hour after the warning was issued, ECCC decided to lift the alert as the storm appeared to be dissipating.

According to ECCC criteria, severe thunderstorm warnings are activated when existing or imminent thunderstorms have the potential to generate large hail, damaging winds, and torrential rainfall. These weather events can pose significant risks to public safety and property, prompting swift reactions from authorities and residents alike to ensure preparedness and safety.
