Severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for the Outaouais region, including Ottawa and its surrounding areas. Environment Canada is currently monitoring these storms which are expected to bring strong winds, specifically in Gatineau, Ottawa, Kanata, and Orléans.

The warnings also cover rural areas in Outaouais and eastern Ontario. Winds are expected to reach up to 90 km/h, with the possibility of hail the size of a five-cent piece and heavy rainfall.

Every year, lightning strikes harm and kill Canadians, reminding everyone to seek shelter indoors when thunderstorms occur. The federal agency emphasizes the importance of safety during these weather conditions.

Hydro Ottawa is preparing for potential power outages and is encouraging residents in the affected areas to get ready by charging their essential electronic devices.

A severe thunderstorm alert is issued when one or more of the following conditions are present or likely: large hail, damaging winds, or torrential rainfall. Earlier, a tornado warning for the Prescott and Russell area in eastern Ontario was lifted on Wednesday afternoon.
