Severe Thunderstorm Warnings Issued Across Western Pennsylvania

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for several counties in western Pennsylvania projected to last until 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. The affected counties include Beaver, Washington, Lawrence, Butler, Indiana, Allegheny, Westmoreland, and Armstrong.
Additionally, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch remains in effect for the entire western Pennsylvania region until 10 p.m. Weather experts predict storms will move from west to east between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. today. The primary threats include damaging winds exceeding 70 mph and hail.
After 9 p.m., some showers may persist until midnight, followed by drier conditions overnight. The weather is expected to stabilize, with lingering clouds.
Alongside severe thunderstorm warnings, the National Weather Service has also issued a tornado warning for parts of Washington and Beaver counties until 5 p.m. Areas in Ohio and West Virginia are also included in this alert.
Pittsburgh is under an enhanced risk for severe weather today, rated a 3 out of 5. Meteorologists caution that large hail, damaging winds, and isolated tornadoes could occur, especially during the afternoon and evening hours.
The current warm temperatures in the low to mid-80s, combined with mostly sunny skies, have contributed to conditions favorable for severe storms.
Residents are encouraged to secure outdoor items and relocate any planned outdoor activities indoors. Parents should remind children to seek shelter indoors at the first sound of thunder due to the rapid nature of severe weather developments.
Looking ahead, Wednesday’s weather conditions will improve with partly cloudy skies and temperatures in the 70s. However, warmer temperatures in the 80s are expected to return on Thursday along with increased chances of showers and potential thunderstorms into the weekend.
