Severe Thunderstorm Watch Texas Coastal Bend

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the Coastal Bend until midnight as strong winds and heavy rain move through the area. A radar update at 10:28 PM confirmed the storm is weakening, with winds now estimated at 60 mph and no life-threatening alerts from the National Weather Service.

Residents across the Coastal Bend area should remain vigilant tonight, particularly in Jim Wells and Nueces counties where a severe thunderstorm warning was previously issued until 10:15 PM. This storm is expected to bring damaging winds, large hail, and isolated flooding.

The Storm Prediction Center has categorized the risk for the area as ‘slight,’ rating it a 2 on a scale of 1-5. Thunderstorms with significant bow echoes could generate straight-line winds, with reports of gusts up to 90 mph in Alice, Texas.

The severe storms are expected to pass through until approximately 2 AM tonight, with higher chances for severe activity occurring mainly between 11 PM and 3 AM. Some locations may not experience severe conditions, as the strongest storms should remain isolated.

If you have outdoor plans tonight, it’s advised to secure shelter as the storms approach. Overnight temperatures are projected to drop into the mid-60s following a weak cold front that is enhancing current storm activity.

The following day, Friday, will likely be sunny with highs in the mid-80s, and humidity levels should drop, creating more comfortable conditions. However, weather impacts this evening are serious, and individuals should stay updated on weather alerts.
