A severe thunderstorm watch issued by Environment Canada for the Ottawa region was lifted on Tuesday evening, after a day of potential severe weather that did not materialize as expected.

The initial weather advisory warned of conditions favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rainfall. Communities like Cornwall, Maxville-Alexandria, Prescott-Russell, Morrisburg-Long Sault also had similar warnings, which were all lifted as conditions improved.

Parts of West Quebec, however, remained under thunderstorm watches by early evening.

Throughout the day, the region experienced intermittent rain, but the severe weather that was forecasted did not fully materialize. Ottawa saw significantly less rainfall compared to other areas like Toronto, which recorded over 97 mm of rain.

Environment Canada had initially issued a severe thunderstorm warning on Monday, anticipating storms that could bring up to 100 mm of rain. However, the actual rainfall in Ottawa on Monday was around 18 mm at the airport.

The current weather forecast for Ottawa indicates showers, potentially heavy at times, with the possibility of thunderstorms ending early in the evening. The night is expected to be mainly cloudy with a risk of showers and thunderstorms.

Looking ahead, Wednesday is predicted to be mainly cloudy with a chance of showers in the afternoon and a risk of thunderstorms. High temperatures are expected to reach 27 C with a humidex of 33.

Thursday’s forecast shows a mix of sun and clouds with a 30% chance of showers and a high of 23 C, followed by sunny skies on Friday with a high of 28 C.
