Severe Thunderstorms Cause Widespread Flooding and Damage in East Texas
Severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall wreaked havoc across East Texas, particularly in areas like Houston, Lake Conroe, Lake Livingston, and Huntsville. The weather phenomenon prompted Harris County meteorologist Jeff Lindner to declare the flooding as significant, with water rescues ongoing in northeast Houston and its suburbs.
Drone footage captured the extent of the damage, showing flooded streets and neighborhoods in Livingston, a city located approximately 70 miles northeast of Houston. Flash flooding and river inundation were widespread, leading to multiple road closures and school shutdowns in the region.
Evacuation orders were issued for residents living along the San Jacinto River and the Trinity River in Harris County. Shelters were established in nearby towns such as Coldspring and Shepherd, as the severe weather continued to pose threats to communities in the area.
With at least 18 river gauges forecasted to reach major flood stage along the Trinity, Navasota, and San Jacinto Rivers, the situation remains dire. While some areas are expected to experience prolonged flooding, authorities remain vigilant, urging residents to stay weather-aware and heed evacuation orders when necessary.
