Thunderstorm In Central New York

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — A series of severe thunderstorms swept through the Finger Lakes and parts of Central New York on Thursday evening, causing damage and prompting warnings.

Between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM, severe thunderstorm warnings were active in several areas, while a brief tornado warning was issued for a storm in north-central Schuyler County, including the Watkins Glen area.

The storms produced heavy rainfall, strong wind gusts, and hail, leading to damage reports from local residents. Reports of downed trees and impacted structures are under review.

Officials are asking anyone with damage reports to send information to [email protected] or contact the Binghamton National Weather Service office at weather.gov/bgm.

The National Weather Service has warned that more storms are expected on Friday, June 6, with risks of isolated heavy rain that could lead to ponding of water and localized flooding in areas with poor drainage.

Temperatures in the region are expected to remain in the low 80s before dropping to the mid-70s over the weekend. This unpredictable weather comes as many residents look forward to outdoor activities, especially the horse racing events planned at Saratoga Race Course.

Residents are advised to stay alert and take precautions as more storms approach Central New York.
