Southeast Michigan Severe Thunderstorms Weather Alert

DETROIT, Michigan — Severe thunderstorms are expected to impact Southeastern Michigan on Tuesday afternoon and evening, according to local meteorologists. A cold front will bring high temperatures in the lower 80s before strong storms roll through the area.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for Southeastern Michigan that will remain in effect until 6 p.m. Tuesday. Residents should brace for sustained winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts possibly reaching up to 45 mph. Meteorologists warn that these winds could lead to scattered power outages and difficulties in travel, particularly for high-profile vehicles.

According to the Storm Prediction Center, there is a slight risk (2 out of 5) for severe weather, highlighting the potential for damaging wind gusts exceeding 65 mph and heavy rain. While hail may occur, meteorologists indicate that the wind threat is the greater concern. A tornado threat has been assessed as very low for the region.

As temperatures are expected to drop into the lower 40s overnight, patchy frost may develop in northern communities, particularly north of M-59. However, the weather should clear up into Wednesday morning, leading to mostly sunny skies and cooler temperatures in the low 60s.

Looking ahead, rain showers are anticipated to return on Thursday and Friday, with temperatures fluctuating between the upper 60s and lower 70s during the week. By the start of the next weekend, conditions are predicted to improve, with mostly sunny skies returning.

“Stay alert,” said meteorologist Bryan, a member of the 4Warn Weather Team. “Make sure to secure any loose objects outside before the storms arrive.”
