Severe Tornado Warnings Issued for New Jersey and Pennsylvania

MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. — The National Weather Service has issued severe tornado warnings for several counties in New Jersey and Pennsylvania as dangerous thunderstorms develop in the region.
The tornado warning is in effect until 5:15 PM EDT for west central Sussex County and north central Warren County in New Jersey, along with east central Monroe County in Pennsylvania. At approximately 4:31 PM EDT, meteorologists reported a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado near Hope, New Jersey, which is about 15 miles southwest of Newton. This storm is moving north at 30 mph.
The storm poses serious hazards, including tornado conditions and quarter-sized hail. The radar indicated rotation, which indicates a high risk of tornado formation. Dangerous flying debris will threaten anyone caught without shelter. Mobile homes could be severely damaged or destroyed, and significant damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles is expected in the storm’s path. Tree damage is also likely.
Areas that may be affected by this tornadic thunderstorm include Flatbrookville, Five Points, and Crandon Lakes, as well as Blairstown and Echo Lake.
A second tornado warning is in effect for northeastern Monroe County in Pennsylvania until 4:45 PM EDT. At 4:32 PM, a similar severe thunderstorm was located near Alpine Mountain, moving north at 30 mph. Residents in this area should also seek immediate shelter.
The public is urged to take cover and move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, seek the nearest substantial shelter to protect yourself from flying debris.
