Wusa9 Weather Alert Severe Storms

WASHINGTON — The WUSA9 Weather Team has issued a Weather Impact Alert for scattered storms expected this Friday. Strong to severe storms could bring damaging winds and large hail to the area.

The alert is in effect from now until 8 p.m. and indicates a chance for active weather that poses hazards. A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for most of the DMV region until 10 p.m.

According to forecasters, aside from the storms, the evening will be warm and partly cloudy with mild temperatures. Residents are advised to keep an eye on the sky and prepare to seek shelter if any warnings are issued later in the day.

Storms are expected to begin in earnest around 6 p.m. and may remain strong through the evening. From 6 p.m. to midnight on Saturday, showers and isolated storms may continue, although the risk of severe weather is anticipated to decrease after 8 p.m.

As the Potomac River‘s water levels stabilize, flooding concerns are slowly subsiding. However, caution remains necessary as localized flooding may still occur due to previous rainfall.
