Severe Weather Alerts Issued for Central Indiana and Northern California

INDIANAPOLIS — A tornado watch has been extended for all of central Indiana until 10 a.m. Saturday, as a line of storms passes through the region overnight. The warning covers areas that could experience damaging winds and tornadoes, creating a need for residents to stay alert and prepared.
As of 2:45 a.m., storm systems originating from eastern Illinois are tracking westward, presenting a significant risk for severe weather. Storms with a history of producing tornadoes are expected to reach western Indiana shortly. Officials are urging residents to be proactive and find shelter as the storms approach.
“Severe weather events are especially dangerous at night when visibility is low,” said John Doe, a meteorologist from the National Weather Service. “We encourage everyone to have multiple ways to receive alerts and be ready to take action if necessary.”
In addition to the tornado watch, a severe thunderstorm watch has also been issued for northern Indiana until 9 a.m. Areas prone to flooding should prepare for heightened risks, with heavy rains potentially leading to flash flooding this weekend.
Rainfall estimates for the weekend range from 3 to 6 inches, especially in coastal regions and parts of Siskiyou County as an atmospheric river approaches. This influx of moisture could lead to rivers and creeks exceeding their banks, prompting flood warnings.
“The combination of heavy rainfall and snowmelt has the potential to cause significant flooding,” stated Jane Smith, a local weather analyst. “Residents should remain vigilant and have an emergency plan in place.”
A winter storm warning has also been issued for the Cascades and Siskiyous in northern California, where snowfall is expected to accumulate significantly at higher elevations. Rain and snow will combine to create hazardous travel conditions on local roadways.
The National Weather Service emphasizes proper preparedness for severe weather overnight. Keeping cell phones charged and volume up is critical to hearing alerts. The situation remains fluid, and residents are advised to stay tuned to local weather broadcasts.
