Severe Weather Expected in Chicago Area with Thunderstorms and High Winds

CHICAGO, Ill. — The National Weather Service is predicting widespread showers and thunderstorms for the Chicago area Tuesday night, with winds reaching up to 60 mph.
A cold front moving through the region is expected to bring thunderstorms to parts of north central and northeast Illinois, as well as northwest Indiana. Meteorologists indicate the storm system will arrive in the Chicago area Tuesday evening and continue into the night.
“This storm has the potential to produce gusty winds, particularly in western Illinois,” said a spokesperson for the National Weather Service.
Current weather conditions at O'Hare International Airport show mostly cloudy skies with temperatures at 66 degrees. Midway Airport reports similar conditions with temperatures at 68 degrees. The chance of thunderstorms later Tuesday is approximately 50 percent.
Local residents are advised to prepare for possible severe weather, including flash flooding and power outages.
Officials recommend safety measures such as securing outdoor objects and staying indoors during severe weather warnings.
The storm’s effects are expected to be felt widely across the affected areas, by residents and officials alike, as they brace for what could be a significant weather event.
The National Weather Service will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
