Severe Weather Expected in San Antonio Ahead of March Madness Events

San Antonio, Texas — A significant weather shift is expected in San Antonio as events for March Madness kick off this weekend. A cool front will move through the area late Friday, bringing a heightened risk of storms from Friday afternoon through Saturday.
While indoor activities such as games and the Fan Fest at the Alamodome or the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center will remain unaffected, attendees should brace for inclement weather during walkways from parking lots.
“We’ll be monitoring for severe weather potential throughout the evening on Friday,” said KSAT meteorologist Sarah Spivey. “If you’re planning on attending the free March Madness Music Festival at Hemisfair, you should prepare for possible storm disruptions during performances by artists like Doechii and Pitbull.”
Forecasters predict that Friday night will be particularly challenging, with storms likely impacting outdoor concerts. However, conditions should improve for Saturday night and Sunday night events, allowing attendees to enjoy performances without weather-related concerns.
Temperatures on Saturday will be in the 50s and 60s, prompting concert-goers to consider bringing light jackets. “Expect cooler temperatures, but we don’t anticipate any significant weather interruptions for Saturday’s events,” Spivey added.
Residents and visitors are advised to stay updated with the latest forecasts as the weekend approaches. Changes in weather patterns may occur rapidly, and those attending the festival should plan accordingly.
Sarah Spivey, a San Antonio native and member of KSAT Weather Authority since 2017, highlighted the unpredictability typical of March weather in San Antonio. Shelby Ebertowski, who joined KSAT in January 2025, also emphasized the need for vigilance this weekend, recalling her experience with Hurricane Harvey in 2017.
