South Florida Thunderstorms Forecast

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (WFLX) – A stalled front in South Florida is set to bring multiple rounds of thunderstorms on Saturday afternoon, prompting adjustments to outdoor plans for residents and visitors.

Forecasters predict the initial storms will move through the area between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. Meteorologist Brandon Orr from Local 10 explained, “It’s not going to actually move through — it’s going to stall out. That’s what’s bringing us the rounds of thunderstorms.”

Thunderstorms are already forming near Alligator Alley, but the main weather system remains north of Lake Okeechobee and may take several hours to reach Broward and Miami-Dade counties. According to Orr, the storm’s intensity is expected to taper off as it approaches the Keys.

By late afternoon and evening, conditions will likely improve, leading to lingering clouds and a chance of stray showers after 5 p.m. “If you hold off your plans until later on this evening or tonight, you’ll be much better off,” Orr advised.

High temperatures on Saturday are forecast to reach 91 degrees, with an increased likelihood of storms due to favorable conditions. While South Florida will face muggy and rainy weather, cities like Tampa and Orlando should experience pleasant conditions.

Despite the rain, Orr encourages families to visit the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale for a hurricane preparedness event. Participants can test their skills at a green screen and learn about safety during hurricane season.

Rain chances are expected to diminish slightly by midweek with the arrival of Saharan dust, though meteorologists warn that pop-up storms will remain a daily risk throughout hurricane season.
