Montana Weather Storm Forecast

HELENA, Montana – Montana residents should prepare for a week of severe weather as the National Weather Service predicts high chances of rain and thunderstorms starting Monday night, April 28.

Rainfall totals are expected to reach 1 to 3 inches by Wednesday, raising concerns about flooding in many areas. Meteorologists warn that while tornado activity remains low, the risk of severe thunderstorms is significant.

“We could see some severe storms Monday afternoon, with all hazards of severe weather in play, including flash flooding,” said meteorologist Joey Biancone. “Although the tornado threat is minimal, those living in northern Montana should remain vigilant.”

The forecast indicates that scattered thunderstorms will become more widespread on Tuesday, especially in western Montana, bringing the potential for damaging winds and hail. Rain and storms are also expected through Wednesday.

Areas in southern Montana might receive up to 2 inches of rain from Saturday through Monday morning. Snowfall in higher elevations is likely, particularly in the Madison, Gallatin, Absaroka, and Beartooth Mountains.

Temperatures will fluctuate significantly throughout the week, peaking at 70 degrees by midweek before a cool down. As warmer air sweeps into the region, there could “be a low risk for severe storms” as conditions develop late Monday.

A Lake Wind Advisory has been issued for Fort Peck Lake from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday due to anticipated windy conditions. Residents are encouraged to stay updated with local weather reports.
