Severe Weather Prompts Delays for Schools in Tallahassee

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Concerns about severe weather have led to delayed start times for classes at Leon County Schools and Florida State University on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. Florida State University announced Tuesday evening that all classes would begin at 9 a.m. ET, and the university expects to resume normal operations at that time.
According to Leon County Schools (LCS), high schools will open at 8:30 a.m., elementary schools at 9:30 a.m., and middle schools at 10:30 a.m. Bus routes will operate one hour later than usual, and all district staff should report to work an hour later than normal. However, there will be no changes to dismissal times or afterschool activities.
The delays were prompted by forecasts predicting strong winds up to 60 mph, alongside other severe weather that could include downed trees and road closures. LCS officials conveyed this information through social media, urging families to stay updated.
“Due to anticipated severe weather including strong winds, Florida State University’s Tallahassee campus will delay opening until 9 a.m. ET Wednesday,” the university stated. “We expect to resume classes and normal business operations at that time.”
As the storm system approaches, residents are reminded to remain vigilantly aware of the changing weather conditions, especially between 3 a.m. and 10 a.m. when the likelihood for severe weather is heightened.
