Severe Weather Threat Looms as Indiana Faces Warm, Windy Friday

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — Central Indiana is gearing up for a warm and windy Friday, with temperatures expected to soar into the upper 70s. Residents should prepare for a potential severe weather outbreak late Friday night into Saturday morning.
The day starts with temperatures around 50 degrees in the early morning, but as the sun rises, they are predicted to climb higher. The forecast calls for partly sunny skies as winds increase throughout the day. By late morning, wind gusts could reach 30 to 35 mph, with some areas experiencing gusts as high as 40 mph by the evening.
A Wind Advisory is in effect across much of Central Indiana from 5 PM Friday until 4 PM Saturday. Officials are warning that gusts of 40 to 50 mph may occur Friday night as storm systems move through the region. With the increased wind, the chance for power outages also rises.
“The primary severe weather threat will be damaging winds,” said the WRTV Storm Team. “However, we can’t rule out the possibility of a tornado given the conditions.”
Severe weather risk levels have also been categorized for the area. Much of Central Indiana faces a Slight Risk (Level 2 of 5) for severe weather, while areas west of Indianapolis fall under an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5).
As storms approach overnight, it is crucial for residents to have a way to receive alerts, especially while they sleep. Loose outdoor items should be secured ahead of the weather event.
The detailed weather forecast for Friday indicates a high of 79 degrees, with thunderstorms developing overnight and a low of 60 degrees. Saturday is expected to bring scattered thunderstorms and additional wind, with daytime temperatures cooling down to around 73 degrees.
