Severe Weather Threat Looms in Central Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A tornado watch was issued by the National Weather Service for parts of Ohio on Wednesday evening. The watch is set to expire around 4 a.m. Thursday, covering several counties, including Delaware, Fairfield, and Franklin.
Wednesday night’s weather forecast predicts another round of strong storms to develop, particularly between 10 PM and 3 AM, with damaging winds, large hail, excessive rainfall, and the possibility of isolated tornadoes.
Residents are advised to stay #WeatherAware and keep their mobile devices charged for updates and alerts. It’s crucial to check emergency kit supplies and have an emergency plan in place.
A flood watch is also in effect through Sunday morning, predicting heavy rain on saturated ground, with potential rainfall totals of 4 to 6 inches. Low-lying and flood-prone areas should be cautious of rising waters, and driving or wading through flood water is strongly discouraged.
On Thursday, the best opportunity for severe storms is expected in the evening, with yet another all-hazards situation possible, including isolated tornadoes, hail, and damaging winds.
The storm system, which began its movement through the region Wednesday, is bringing increased moisture and warmer temperatures, creating a muggy atmosphere. A cold front moving from Central Iowa into Ohio is expected to provoke further storm developments on Thursday.
The National Weather Service continues to monitor the situation closely, and while tornado warnings issued Wednesday expired, a severe thunderstorm warning remained in effect. Strong winds exceeding 60 mph were identified as a primary threat, alongside the potential for brief tornado occurrences.
As of Thursday morning, AEP Ohio reported approximately 4,300 customers without power, predominantly in Franklin County. The power outage has been linked to damage from the previous strong thunderstorms.
The latest storm activity has raised additional concerns for flooding and strong winds as the system continues to affect various regions of Ohio. Areas under an Enhanced Risk for severe storms have been categorized at Level 3 out of 5 for potential risk severity.
The cold front is predicted to stall near the Ohio River, leading to continued threats of thunderstorms and isolated severe weather into Friday.
Local residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and prepared as forecasters expect the chance of storms to linger throughout the weekend.
