Severe Weather Threats Loom Over Oklahoma This Weekend

OKLAHOMA CITY – A severe weather threat is looming over Oklahoma this weekend as multiple storm systems are expected to bring damaging winds, hail, and isolated tornadoes starting Saturday afternoon.
The National Weather Service has issued alerts as residents prepare for changes in weather patterns following a devastating tornado outbreak that affected parts of the Midwest, including Missouri and Kentucky, resulting in multiple fatalities.
Storm systems are forecast to impact Oklahoma from Saturday through Monday, with Saturday being particularly active. Severe storms may develop especially in southeast Oklahoma, where the threat includes baseball-sized hail and damaging winds.
“Conditions will be favorable for severe storms, with high humidity levels and Gulf moisture entering the state,” said News 9 Meteorologist Lacey Swope.
On Sunday, storms are projected to gain intensity, especially along I-35 in central and western Oklahoma. The potential for tornadoes increases, and damaging winds may reach up to 70 miles per hour. Residents should remain alert as dew points rise and wind shear increases.
The stormy pattern is anticipated to continue into Monday, with damaging winds and hail remaining significant threats. Following this volatile period, a brief respite from severe weather is expected early next week.
Oklahomans are advised to stay weather-aware and utilize the News 9 Weather App for real-time alerts and radar updates. As temperatures soar into the 80s and 90s in some areas, meteorologists recommend that individuals prepare for severe weather now rather than waiting for the storms to arrive.
With unpredictable weather ahead, it’s crucial for families to have a safety plan and essential supplies ready, including food, water, and flashlights, in case of power outages caused by the storms. This proactive approach will help mitigate impacts from potential severe weather, ensuring that families are prepared for any situation.
