Sheppard Air Force Base Lockdown Incident

WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Sheppard Air Force Base was placed on lockdown Friday morning, March 28, 2025, after reports of an active shooter near the southeast side of the base. Security forces responded to the call at approximately 9:40 a.m., prompting immediate precautionary measures.

The lockdown was initiated after the initial reports indicated possible gunfire, leading to the immediate securing of Sheppard Elementary School. Officials confirmed through their Facebook page that local police, in conjunction with base security forces, launched investigations and conducted area sweeps.

According to a spokesperson from Sheppard Air Force Base, “We take every report seriously and are committed to ensuring the safety of our personnel and their families.” During the lockdown, drones were deployed to assist in the search efforts.

By 10:46 a.m., no evidence was found to support the claims of an active shooter, and by 11:20 a.m., the base declared an “all clear” on their social media platforms. No injuries or further incidents were reported.

The lockdown situation, while distressing for those on the base, concluded without incident. Base officials continue to investigate the source of the reports. Sheppard Air Force Base is located about two hours northwest of Dallas.

This incident raises community awareness on safety protocols, and officials encourage civilians to report any suspicious activity. As investigations continue, updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
