HOUSTON, Texas — A shooting near Texas Southern University on Wednesday afternoon left one man dead and prompted a shelter-in-place order for students. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. near the intersection of Ennis and Rosewood, according to the Houston Police Department.

The victim was discovered fatally shot inside a vehicle, leading local authorities to initiate a search for two suspects. In response to the unfolding situation, Houston Independent School District placed Lockhart Elementary, Yates High School, and Blackshear Elementary in ‘secure mode’ as a safety precaution.

Texas Southern University issued an alert advising its students to remain indoors while law enforcement conducted their investigation. The alert detailed the descriptions of two suspects: the first is a thin man with short dreadlocks, wearing a white T-shirt, dark shorts, and carrying a white bag. The second is described as a heavyset Black man with dreadlocks, dressed in a white shirt and a black bag.

Authorities have released a photo of the suspects to assist in their apprehension. As the investigation continues, TSU has advised all students to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

This incident marks a troubling moment for the local community as it grapples with safety concerns in the wake of gun violence. The Houston Police Department has vowed to keep the public informed as details emerge from this case.
