Sidhu Moosewala Death Anniversary: Family Hosts Low-Key Event to Honour Late Punjabi Singer
Today marks the second death anniversary of the late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, who tragically lost his life in 2022. The Moosewala family, led by Sidhu’s father Balkaur Singh, organized a modest event in Mansa, Punjab, to pay homage to the departed artist.
Given the extreme heatwave and the ongoing elections, the event was kept simple to honor the memory of Sidhu Moosewala. Balkaur Singh urged the public not to congregate in large numbers at the event, emphasizing that only close family and villagers should attend.
On the eve of the death anniversary, residents from Mansa offered tributes to Sidhu Moosewala by installing statues, busts, and photographs in the local area. Local shops are also reportedly selling t-shirts and coffee mugs featuring Moosewala’s face as a gesture of remembrance.
Charan Kaur, Sidhu Moosewala’s mother, took to Instagram to share an emotional post on the solemn occasion. In her heartfelt message, she expressed her profound sorrow and everlasting love for her son. The post, written in Punjabi, reflected the enduring presence of Sidhu Moosewala in their hearts.
The tragic incident that claimed Sidhu Moosewala’s life occurred on May 29, 2022, in Mansa, where assailants unleashed a barrage of over 30 rounds at the revered singer. Following his untimely demise, the Punjab police pointed fingers at Canada-based singer Goldy Brar and notorious gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, who allegedly took responsibility for the murder through a Facebook post.
Sidhu Moosewala’s demise sparked political turmoil in the state, with calls for accountability and justice resonating strongly. The artist’s active involvement in politics, including his contest in the 2019 assembly election from Mansa on a Congress ticket, added layers of complexity to his legacy in the public eye.
