Silver Airways Cancels All Orlando Flights Amid Bankruptcy Concerns

ORLANDO, Fla. — Silver Airways unexpectedly canceled all flights at Orlando International Airport over the weekend, leaving passengers stranded as the company navigates its recent Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
The cancellations started on March 1, when 13 flights were reported canceled at the airport, with 11 of those being operated by Silver Airways. The disruption continued into March 2, resulting in six more flight cancellations, according to an airport spokesperson.
Angela Starke, senior vice president of public affairs and community relations at Orlando International Airport, confirmed that the airline notified them on March 1 that all departing and arriving flights would be canceled effective immediately. “We received notification yesterday afternoon that, effective immediately, all departing and arriving flights with Silver Airlines are canceled,” Starke said.
This dramatic decision by the airline follows its voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in December 2024. In a letter addressed to customers following the bankruptcy announcement, Silver Airways assured ticket holders that all tickets would remain valid and that normal operations would continue. “This decision will allow us to secure additional capital and undertake a financial restructuring that will strengthen our position as a competitive airline, ultimately benefiting you—our valued customers,” the airline stated.
Despite these assurances, passengers expressed frustration and confusion as flight cancellations left them without immediate travel options. Silver Airways has not provided further clarification regarding the abrupt cancellations or the status of future flights. As of March 2, the airline’s website showed no updates to its flight schedules, although flights out of Orlando appeared temporarily unavailable.
The airline has been a critical player at Orlando International Airport, ranking as the 27th largest airline by passenger volume in 2024. In that year, Silver Airways transported approximately 129,000 passengers to and from the airport, servicing popular destinations including Pensacola, Key West, the Bahamas, and Fort Lauderdale.
As more information becomes available, airport officials and news outlets continue to monitor the situation surrounding Silver Airways’ operations. WESH 2 News and other Florida-based outlets will provide updates for stranded passengers awaiting further details.
