Simon Kinberg Tapped by Lucasfilm to Write and Produce New Star Wars Trilogy
Lucasfilm has announced a significant development in the Star Wars franchise, revealing that Simon Kinberg, known for his work on the X-Men series, has been hired to write and produce a new trilogy of Star Wars films. This move marks a new direction for the franchise, which last saw the conclusion of the Skywalker saga with 2019’s “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”.
Kinberg, who has a mixed reception for his previous works, including the critically panned “X-Men: Dark Phoenix,” will be collaborating closely with Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy on the project. The decision has sparked a range of reactions from fans, with some expressing skepticism about Kinberg’s ability to handle such a monumental task.
Despite the concerns, the new trilogy is expected to introduce a fresh narrative arc within the Star Wars universe. Fans are advocating for a careful and well-planned approach, suggesting that a gap of at least three years between films would be essential for proper storytelling and thorough planning.
In addition to his work on the Star Wars trilogy, Kinberg is also involved in other upcoming projects, including Edgar Wright‘s ‘The Running Man,’ which is slated for a November 2025 release. Kinberg is producing this film alongside Nira Park and Edgar Wright, who also penned the script with Michael Bacall.
