Jannik Sinner Novak Djokovic French Open 2025

Paris, France – Jannik Sinner, the world No. 1, defeated Novak Djokovic in straight sets to advance to the men’s singles final at the 2025 French Open. Sinner won the semifinal match 6-4, 7-5, 7-6(3) on June 7, 2025, marking his first appearance in a French Open final.

After the match, Djokovic, a three-time champion at Roland Garros, hinted that this could be his last match on the clay courts of Paris. “This could have been the last match ever I played here, so I don’t know,” he said. “That’s why I was a bit more emotional even in the end.”

The semifinal saw Sinner battle against defending champion Lorenzo Musetti, who retired during their match while trailing 6-4, 6-7(3), 0-6, 0-2, earlier in the tournament.

In the final, Sinner will face Carlos Alcaraz, the second seed. This matchup will be the first Grand Slam final between the two players. Alcaraz will be seeking his fifth major title, while Sinner aims for his first French Open title and a third consecutive Grand Slam win.

If Alcaraz wins, he will join the ranks of Rafael Nadal as the last Spaniard to win back-to-back titles at the French Open. Sinner, on the other hand, could tie Alcaraz in total Grand Slam titles with four.

Sinner expressed his excitement about reaching the final, sharing: “It’s just amazing. I had to step up, play my best tennis, and I am very happy how I handled these situations.” He recognized Djokovic’s legacy, stating, “What he’s doing is incredible.” Meanwhile, Djokovic confirmed his participation in Wimbledon and the U.S. Open this year.

Head-to-head, Alcaraz leads against Sinner 2-1 in their previous meetings at majors, signaling a thrilling showdown for the title this Sunday.
