Small Plane Crash Bay Bridge Airport Maryland

STEVENSVILLE, Md. — A small plane crashed while attempting to land Wednesday morning at Bay Bridge Airport, prompting an investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The incident occurred around 10:30 a.m. local time when a Cirrus SR22 aircraft veered off the runway and onto the shoreline of Chesapeake Bay, according to an FAA statement.

The pilot, the only occupant of the aircraft, was evaluated by emergency medical personnel at the scene. Fortunately, the pilot reported no injuries and declined medical treatment, Maryland State Police (MSP) said. The runway was reopened by 1:15 p.m.

Witnesses reported seeing the plane skid off the runway and into a marsh area adjacent to the airport. According to the FAA registry, the aircraft is registered to 3VR Aviation LLC based in Annapolis.

“There were no injuries, and the pilot was cooperative throughout the evaluation,” MSP officials told Fox News Digital.

The National Transportation Safety Board will also be conducting an investigation into the incident.

As a precaution, the airport was temporarily closed as authorities inspected the scene and gathered additional information. A spokesperson for the Queen Anne's County Department of Emergency Services stated that the airport will remain closed until the investigation is concluded.

This crash follows another tragic aviation incident over the weekend, where a couple and their pilot died in a plane crash in Alabama.
